Following a guided mindfulness session

Use the accompanying music with the written prompts below. This article supplies a short mindfulness practice to follow at your own pace; the video is a musical companion, not a recording of these instructions. Read each step before listening, or pause the music whenever you want to return to the words. You can choose a brief interval and finish when it suits you.

Music for a mindful pause

A piano-led musical companion to the written mindfulness prompts in our article. The recording does not narrate those instructions.

Begin with your surroundings

Find a comfortable place to sit and set the volume at an easy level. Take a moment to notice where you are: the light, the room's sounds and the support of the chair or floor. Your eyes can remain open. Let this be a practical beginning rather than a search for a perfect setting. Read the next prompt when you feel ready, without needing to produce a special mood.

Choose one thing to notice

Listen for a sound in the music. Notice whether it seems sustained or brief, near or distant, repeated or changing. You do not need to name the instrument or decide whether you like every passage. Alternatively, attend to the ordinary feeling of breathing without trying to alter its rhythm. Choose whichever point of attention feels straightforward for you, and give it a little room before moving on.

Return without making a score

At some point, a thought, a distraction or the urge to check something may draw your attention away. When you notice that change, gently return to the sound or sensation you chose. There is no tally to keep and no requirement to feel calm. This written prompt is simply an invitation to notice what attention is doing. You may pause, switch your point of attention or end the practice.

Close with a small observation

Before returning to another activity, notice the room again. You might describe one sound in your own words or remember how long you enjoyed listening. A useful next session could be shorter, quieter or at another time of day. These observations belong to your experience; they are not quotations or teachings attributed to the recording.

When you prefer a spoken guide

A narrated session is a different choice: someone speaks prompts while you listen. Check the actual recording and select a language you understand, rather than relying on a playlist title to establish that guidance is present. For this page, the guidance is written here. You can also explore music and sacred chants in Bhakti Radio without changing your saved devotional-song language.
